Buustamons Fjällgård sits at 732 meters up Åreskutan, making it the highest-situated hotel on the mountain. It's tucked into Ullådalen with ski-in/ski-out access right from the door, and it's about a five-minute drive from Åre village.
The room sleeps two across one bedroom and comes with a hot tub, mountain views, and access to a sauna and outdoor warm bath each afternoon. There's a restaurant on site serving a seasonal evening menu, plus a small basement distillery where the lodge makes its own snaps, with sales direct from the farm. Pets aren't permitted in the restaurant.
The building has history going back to the 1700s, when the area was used for grazing cattle and as a resting spot. The timbered cottage itself dates to 1880 and was moved up from Rännberg, near Duved, ahead of the 1954 World Championships. It started out as a coffee and waffle cabin, with lodging upstairs from the beginning, and that same simple, homey character carries through today.
Check-in runs from 12:00 PM and check-out is by 3:00 PM. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, closed Monday and Sunday. Rates start around $1,095 a night and run up to $1,595 depending on dates and packages, which can include breakfast, sauna and outdoor bath access, and either the Christmas table or a distillery tasting. Booking is handled directly through the lodge's website or by phone.
