Eagle's Nest sits 60 feet up between two redwoods on Salmon Creek Ranch, a 400-acre working farm in Sonoma County near Bodega Bay. Getting there means climbing a spiral staircase and crossing a 40-foot suspension bridge to a wrap-around deck. Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows look out over redwood, pine and bay laurel forest, and even the bathroom shower has two glass walls facing the trees.
The structure began over 20 years ago as a secluded office built by the Mulholland Brothers, later featured in House & Garden Magazine and on a treehouse-building TV show. In 2016 it was relocated onto stronger, tree-friendly mounts and rebuilt with floor, ceiling and trim milled from a 1,000-year-old redwood log found on the property. A five-year permitting process with Sonoma County followed before it reopened to guests in May 2021.
Stays here are framed as a farm visit as much as a treehouse night. Guests can walk the ranch's private trail network, watch ducks, cows, goats and livestock guardian dogs at work, and cook over a fire ring or barbecue at the base of the tree. The 1.5 miles of Salmon Creek run through the property, and on clear nights owls and, occasionally, the distant Pacific surf carry through the forest. Despite the off-grid setting, the treehouse has electricity, heat, running water and Wi-Fi, making it workable for a remote-work stretch as well as a couples' getaway.
Booking runs through Hipcamp or Airbnb; the ranch can also be reached directly by phone or email for questions before reserving.
