Almdorf Vorderbrand sits above Schönau am Königssee at roughly 1,075 meters, on a working farm run by the Aschauer family on the Obersalzberg side of Berchtesgaden. Since opening in July 2021, the property has offered six freestanding cabins built to look like traditional alpine huts, reached via either Vorderbrandstraße or the wider, better-plowed Obersalzbergstraße.
Two layouts are available. The Kleine Alm sleeps two to four across 40 square meters, with one bedroom, a wood-fired stove in the open kitchen-living area, a bathroom with rain shower and two infrared loungers, and a 20-square-meter terrace with a hot tub and gas grill. The Große Alm sleeps four to six across 56 square meters, with two bedrooms, a separate WC, a dishwasher and coffee machine in the kitchen, and the same terrace setup with hot tub and gas grill. Couples who can't find a Kleine Alm available can ask about renting a Große Alm with one bedroom locked, at the smaller cabin's rate.
Each cabin has Wi-Fi, underfloor heating, a swiveling flat-screen TV, and access to a covered parking spot with a mini-garage for skis, sleds, and bikes, plus a boot dryer. A playground, herb garden, and gear-storage room round out the shared amenities. Trailheads for hiking and mountain touring start right from the property, making it a practical base for exploring the Berchtesgaden Alps in any season.
Pets are not allowed, due to the adjoining farmland. In peak season, online booking requires a minimum stay of six nights; in the off-season, the minimum drops to three nights, also bookable online.
