Eco Lodge Cabreira sits on the slopes of Serra da Cabreira, a granite mountain range in Portugal's Norte region, about 95 km from Porto, 65 km from Braga and 50 km from Guimarães. The property is a working rural farm whose original buildings date to 1673; restoration began in 2012, turning part of the quinta into three wooden-log bungalows and glamping accommodation sleeping up to four or five people each.
There's no Wi-Fi or TV in the bungalows. Instead, guests find handmade furniture, books, blankets and a wood-burning stove for cold evenings, plus a large veranda for outdoor meals or grilling. A natural stone tank, 7 by 4 metres and fed by a spring, serves as the on-site swimming spot, with views over the surrounding valley. The owners also share directions to nearby waterfalls, rivers and natural pools in the area.
The farm is pet friendly, with the expectation that dogs are well-behaved and comfortable around people, children and other animals. Families often come for simple outdoor activities - gathering firewood, building shelters from gorse branches, digging a fire pit for dinner, or walking mountain trails. Couples looking for quiet also use the lodge as a base, with nearby hiking routes and outdoor activity partners available through the owners.
During low season, groups can access a separate support house with a kitchen, bar and barbecue area for shared gatherings. Reservations run through the official website or by phone, and reception hours vary by day, with shorter hours on Sundays.
