Ngahere Hou sits at the halfway point of the Queen Charlotte Track at Kenepuru Head, on a 40-acre private bush reserve overlooking Kenepuru Sound. The property is run by Kate and Ian and offers three accommodation options, including a 6-metre yurt and a yurt-style Summerhouse cabin. Book the Yurt+ option and you get the whole place to yourself, with room for up to six.

This is a fully off-grid setup, so expect a quieter kind of stay: no mains power, just the sound of the bush and the water below. A hot tub sits under the stars for evening soaks, and there's a terrace for barbecuing at sunset. An organic breakfast is included with every stay.

Days here are shaped by what's around you. There's a beach for swimming, plus bikes and kayaks to get out onto the Kenepuru Heads estuary, which has plenty of fish and bird life along its edges. A hammock is on hand for anyone who'd rather just read and do nothing much at all.

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 10am. The property is waterfront and secluded, suited to couples or small groups looking for a stretch of quiet. Ngahere Hou has also featured on Grand Designs NZ, series 4, episode 8, as 'The Pod House.' To check availability, pricing and any current specials, contact Kate and Ian directly through the Ngahere Hou website or by phone.
