Joni Cabin sits on 77 wooded acres in Pakenham, a rural community on the edge of the Ottawa Valley, between a high ridge and a quiet forest above a running brook. The cabin is named for Joni Mitchell and is built for one or two people looking for a simple, wooded retreat rather than a full resort stay. It sleeps up to three guests in a single bed setup.
The property is off-grid: there's no wifi, and running water is only available mid-May through mid-October. An indoor compost toilet, mini fridge, stovetop, cookware, and drinking water are provided year-round, along with a fire pit, BBQ, patio furniture, and a small library. Snowshoes are stocked for winter visits. Access changes with the season — it's drive-in during summer, but from November through April guests hike in about 300 metres to reach the cabin.
Outside the cabin door there's hiking, gravel and road cycling, trail running, and swimming nearby, plus downhill skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The surrounding area includes maple groves, creeks, and artesian springs, with the historic villages of Mississippi Mills a short drive away. Cartwright Springs Brewery operates near the main road for anyone wanting a local drink before or after a stay.
Rates run from $169 a night in the off-season to $229 on summer holidays, with weeknight, weekend, and holiday pricing that shifts between the May–October and November–April seasons. Pets are allowed. Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out at 11 am, booked directly through Cabinscape.
