Bone Cabin sits on a rocky outcrop above Bone Lake, inside Haliburton Forest Wildlife Reserve in Dysart and Others, Ontario. The one-room structure is off-grid, with no wifi, and sized for a solo traveler or a couple — there's a single bed and a two-guest limit. A 270-degree view opens over the water, catching sunset in one direction and sunrise in the other.
Access changes with the season: summer visitors can drive right up, while winter arrivals leave the car behind for a 300-metre hike in, and the cabin stocks two pairs of snowshoes for that walk. Running water is turned on mid-May through mid-October; outside that window, guests rely on the indoor compost toilet and drinking water supplied on site. A fan and heater handle temperature, and a mini fridge, stovetop, cookware, and basic pantry items (salt, pepper, olive oil, sugar, coffee) cover the kitchen. Outside there's a dock for summer swims, a campfire ring, BBQ, patio furniture, and a canoe with life jackets for paddling the lake.
Pets are allowed, and the surrounding 100,000 acres of Haliburton Forest are open for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and paddling, with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing in winter — snowmobile trails require a seasonal pass. Check-in is at 3 pm, check-out at 11 am.
Rates shift by season and day: summer runs $241 on weeknights up to $281 on holidays, while winter drops to $199 on weeknights and $239 on holidays. Bookings run through Cabinscape, the cabin's listing partner.
