Finch Cabin sits on the forested grounds of Calabogie Peaks Resort, Ontario, perched above the shores of Calabogie Lake at the base of Dickson Mountain. It's one of three near-identical cabins here (alongside Starling and Wren), each set 200 to 300 metres apart on its own lot for privacy, with lake views and direct access to regional hiking, including the Eagles Nest lookout.
This is an off-grid stay with no Wi-Fi, built for guests who want to disconnect. Inside and out, the cabin comes with a fire pit, BBQ, picnic table, patio furniture, a mini fridge, stovetop, sink, drinking water, basic cookware, pantry staples, a fan and heater, a mini library, and two pairs of snowshoes. There's an indoor compost toilet rather than a full bathroom. The cabin sleeps up to three guests and is pet friendly.
Access changes with the season: in summer you can drive in (4WD recommended) or hike, while in winter it's hike-in only, with a short 50-metre walk from the parking area. Once settled, there's plenty to fill the days — hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, trail running, fishing, paddling and swimming in warmer months, with cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, ATV'ing and snowmobiling in winter. Optional resort day passes open up snowboarding, tennis, golf, a public beach and spa services, plus two on-site restaurants, though the cabin itself is positioned away from the main resort buildings.
Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out at 11 am. Rates run from $179 per night in the off-season to higher weekend and holiday pricing in summer. Booking is handled through Cabinscape.
