Ang'ata Ngorongoro Camp sits at about 2,310 meters on the eastern side of the Ngorongoro Crater rim, just inside the park boundaries and close to Crater Lodge. The camp recently relocated from the Acacia special campsite to the Nyati special campsite nearby, keeping the same setup and outlook over the crater.
The camp is built around eight guest tents, including a two-tent family unit, plus a shared lounge and a separate dining tent. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with a shower, vanity desk and flush toilet, and beds can be arranged as a king, two twins or a triple depending on the group. Meals are cooked fresh daily by the camp's chefs and served in the dining tent, and when weather allows, a campfire — called Bush TV here — is lit for evenings spent trading stories with other travelers.
Being inside the park gives guests an early start on game drives down into the crater, where up to 25,000 animals live, including the rare black rhinoceros. From camp, it's possible to arrange a day hike to Empakaai Crater, a visit to a Maasai village, donkey riding, a ranger-led walk along the crater rim, or a bush lunch on the crater floor. All of these extra activities need to be arranged in advance through the camp's reservations team.
