Southern Yurts sits on the Diepklowe Nature Reserve near Botrivier, in the Overberg region of the Cape Winelands, roughly 1,5 hours' drive from Cape Town. The yurts are custom-made by the property itself, with canvas covers stitched by South African companies and wood sourced from alien tree clearing in the area.
Each yurt is set up for a secluded stay with private facilities, including a private wood-fired hot tub, plus a wood stove or fireplace for cooler nights. Linen, towels and basic supplies are included, and all units use biodegradable soaps, shampoos and conditioners. Water on site comes from farm springs and is recycled from showers and hot tubs back into the garden and river system.
The reserve also includes two additional houses managed by Porcupine Hills Guest Accommodation, so larger groups booking the whole property can combine farmhouses, an events lodge, cabins, glamping and camping to host 34 to 50 people in beds, with extra camping space for 40 to 60 more. This makes Southern Yurts workable for couples and small families as well as weddings, retreats or large events.
A conservation fee of R75 per person per stay is added to bookings, rising to R100 from January 2027, and goes toward the Diepklowe Conservation Trust's work on alien clearing, erosion management, hiking trail access and rewilding of the Renosterveld biome. Guests are also welcome to bring clothes, blankets or other items to donate to the local Botrivier and Van der Stel Pass community, which can be dropped off at reception on check-in.
To book, contact Southern Yurts directly via WhatsApp or email with your dates, especially for exclusive-use bookings covering weddings or events.
